He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and Hofstra University, serving as a U.S. Navy officer during World War II. During the War he served as the administrative officer for Air Group Eight in the Pacific Theater, later assigned to Grumman Aircraft Corporation as the Bureau of Aeronautics Representative.
